Next week, members from EWB-MN along with local Rotary members will embark on a meaningful journey to Guatemala. The goal is to celebrate the remarkable achievement of completing the secondary school in the vibrant community of Rio Azul!
In the past, the community did not have an adequate secondary school building, which meant older students had to share space with younger ones, greatly impacting student learning. Now that the new school is complete, students benefit from seven classrooms, administrative offices, a kitchen, and modern bathroom facilities, providing a secure and supportive learning environment. Additionally, a new sports court encourages physical activity and teamwork, enhancing student life even further.
For several years, our committed volunteers have been working on this transformative project, collaborating closely with local community members who have provided invaluable insights and support. The project has also been made possible through generous donations and support from various Rotary chapters, which have played a pivotal role in funding and facilitating the construction of the school. Now that the school is finally ready to welcome eager students and teachers, we are filled with excitement and anticipation as we prepare to travel to the community to partake in the joyous opening celebration of this educational institution.
During our time in Guatemala, we look forward to immersing ourselves in the local culture and sharing our experiences with all of you. We are particularly excited about documenting the festivities surrounding the school's inauguration, which will not only mark the culmination of years of hard work but also signify a new beginning for the students and the community as a whole.
