Yesterday marked yet another early morning for our group, as we rose early to embark on our journey to a new destination. After a quick breakfast, we gathered our belongings and boarded the bus, leaving the charming town of Nebaj behind. The bus wound its way through the mountains, offering breathtaking vistas. By early afternoon, we finally arrived at our destination, eager to see what lay ahead.
Upon our arrival, we checked into our hotel, a cozy local bed and breakfast that offered a glimpse into the local hospitality. Once we settled in and took a brief moment to rest and refresh ourselves, we were excited to meet a couple of our local contacts from Ingenieros Sin Fronteras - Guatemala. They greeted us warmly and presented us with an unexpected invitation to participate in a friendly soccer match that afternoon. After a short break, we hopped back on the bus, and we made our way to the soccer field. The atmosphere at the field was lively, with locals gathering to watch the match, and several of our volunteers eagerly joined in on the fun. Members of EWB-MN were divided between the two teams, allowing us to cheer for both sides and enjoy the fun that comes with friendly competition.
Following the exhilarating soccer match, we were graciously invited to dinner at the municipality building. This gathering included the mayor and other prominent members of the local community, providing us with a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations. As we sat down to share a meal, we discussed the ongoing water project that our team is currently working on for the community, delving into its significance and the positive impact it aims to achieve. It was a delightful evening that strengthened our bonds with the locals and enriched our understanding of the community's needs and aspirations. Later that night, we returned to our hotel and prepared for another exciting day tomorrow.
