Day 7

¡Fue un día increíble! What a great day - so many things happening, all at the same time!

Where to start? Today was another big community work day, with over 30 people showing up and pitching in. The "máquina" (machine/excavator) was back in action, which was definitely needed and much appreciated today.

We had a crew working at the tanks, a crew working on the rest of the pipe installation in San Francisco, a crew working at the well house, and a crew working on the main line in Santa Rosa.

Our crew at the tanks was able to drain the remainder of the temporary tanks installed last year and swap them with the permanent 10,000 L tanks. By the end of the day, they were able to make critical connections to the tanks with the permanent lines.

The crew at the well house continued their work assembling the chlorination system and working through the pump controls with the local electrician.

With the máquina up and running, we were able to excavate around the main line that was installed last year. Part of the expansion includes tying into the existing line to allow the branch piping to be installed. We will have to get creative with this piping, as we will need to cross under another existing line in order to tie it all in.

Did I mention how great it was to have the máquina working today? Fantastic progress was made today with the excavation in San Francisco. With the máquina, rock crew, pipe installation crew, sand crew, dirt crew, and hydration crew, we finished the long runs of pipe and, for the most part, are ready for our contractor, Benjamin, to install the tap stands.

The community of Chuchurras really knows how to come together and work hard each day to accomplish as much as possible. They work hard, and everyone jumps in to help wherever they are needed. Whether in the trenches clearing rock or hauling sand, transporting the massive tanks, or keeping everyone hydrated, it is a team effort. What gets accomplished every day is a direct result of every person who has had a hand, literally, in this project.
